"Only
the Smashing Pumpkins could have pulled it off. While the world eagerly
awaited a new Pumpkins album the indefatigable Billy Corgan had decided
not for the first time, to fly in the face of conversation. The bands
fourth
album 'Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness' was a double album
containing
an astonishing twenty eight tracks, that effortlessly covered
imaginable
music terrain. While the industry worried about viability of such a
mammoth
undertaking, the single '1979', 'Bullet With Butterfly Wings', Zero and
the excellent 'Tonight Tonight' paved the way for sales currently
around
a remarkable seven million copies. Chicago natives James Iha, D'arcy
Wretzy
and singer, songwriter , guitarist Corgan have arguably become the
biggest
band in the world at present. If their debut 'Gish' caused a stir, then
the reaction to follow up 'Siamese Dream' was positively seismic.
Chatback
Records is delighted to present this fascinating interview with Billy
and
D'arcy conducted in front of a live studio audience, with Corgan
talking
as candidly as ever about his bands meteoic rise to global acclaim, and
what makes the phenomenal Smashing Pumpkins tick.
